ISS: 5 astronauts take refuge in the SpaceX capsule due to air leak

KEY TAKEAWAYS

• Air loss in the Russian segment of the ISS forces 5 astronauts to take refuge in the SpaceX Crew Dragon Freedom capsule.
• The evacuation was ordered by NASA to ensure the crew's safety during repairs.
• The air leak comes from a transfer tunnel in the Zvezda module, caused by micro-fractures in the structure.
• Russian cosmonauts have repeatedly attempted to seal the micro-fractures, but a permanent solution has not yet been found.
• The SpaceX capsule serves as a 'lifeboat' for the crew until the scheduled return to Earth in September.
